Prefabricated cigarette holder processing
Prefabricated cigarette holders have a lot of shapes and sizes to meet different needs. Due to the limitation of batch mold injection molding process, there are currently two main materials for cigarette holders: vulcanized rubber and acrylic polymer resin. It is a great boon for customers and maintenance personnel. Most prefabricated mouthpieces require a lot of post-work to fit on the pipe and match the style of the pipe. If installed on a curved pipe, it also needs to be heated to bend the mouthpiece In addition to the installation process, most handmade pipe makers will also modify the flue of the prefabricated mouthpiece.
The tenon part of the prefabricated cigarette holder is generally thick, so it can be precisely installed on the tenon hole in the front through processing, and it can be adapted to various installation methods, which is convenient and fast.
It is best to continue machining the pre-made mouthpiece with a lathe, which can easily machine the tenon to the required size. If a suitable lathe is not available, equipment such as Pimo tenon turning tools can also be used, which can be mounted on a power drill or drill press, Later, there were also people who directly manufactured a one-time mortise turning tool, but the unreliable factor made most of the bucket makers abandon the cheap Pimo knife and use the lathe instead.
Another good solution is to use a separately installed acetal (Delrin) tenon. It avoids the processing risk of an integrated mouthpiece. The trick to using Delrin is to accurately drill holes in the mouth of the mouthpiece, insert the Delrin in Stay. First, cut off the tenon of the prefabricated cigarette holder, use a drill or a lathe to drill the position of the Delrin tenon at the flat mouth, and then install the finished Delrin tenon.
Mr. Taylor said: Since most pipes use prefabricated mouthpieces, most people want to make pipes, which is to make the wood bowl part and install the mouthpiece. Most pipe hobbyists don’t even cut wood by hand. block, which I find unfortunate. The mouthpiece is an important part of the pipe, both functionally and aesthetically.
Most of the structures in the overall passage of the pipe are on the mouthpiece. If you have a pipe that often accumulates water, it will often whistle. I am almost certain that the whistle and water accumulation are caused by the mouthpiece. The poor performance is caused by the cigarette holder.
The bite of the mouthpiece can also have a huge impact on the smoker. Due to the shape of the front half of the pipe, the dimensional variation is almost unlimited, but prefabricated mouthpieces have only a fixed shape and size for economical and usability reasons, although there are many of them It is still not applicable to all pipe shapes, so this problem can be solved, and the handmade mouthpiece serving a single pipe has appeared. Vulcanized rubber has always been considered to be the best mouthpiece material for bite, but the main disadvantage is the oxidation problem. Therefore, it is a type that requires maintenance, but because the high-grade vulcanized rubber rods from Germany and other places used for hand-made mouthpieces are much better materials than prefabricated mouthpieces, the oxidation is very slow, and the advantages over acrylic and other materials are very high. Obviously.
POM resin (Delrin) tenon
Deloris is the trade name for an acetal resin engineering plastic invented and sold by DuPont. It is a lightweight, wear-resistant, smooth plastic. Often used as a metal replacement. Can operate at temperatures in excess of 90 degrees Celsius , According to DuPont’s safety data, the material has a slight formaldehyde odor.
Other names for this compound include: polyoxymethylene (POM), acetal resin, polytrioxane, and polyoxymethylene.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Delrin for use in the food industry.
Delrin has proven to be an excellent material for pipe fittings. It has self-lubricating function and high strength. Its strength may also be a disadvantage, because after the middle of the pipe is stressed, it may not be the tenon that breaks, but the handle is cracked, and repairing the handle is more troublesome than repairing the tenon. Another disadvantage is that some mouthpiece shapes may not be available due to the need to fit into the mouthpiece, as there is no place to insert delrin, such as a thin saddle mouth. Despite this, Delrin is still the tenon material of choice for many pipe manufacturers.
The decorative ring is a very important part of many pipemakers and factories. It is generally fixed on the handle and has dual value of decoration and utility. The part discussed here is not the extension part on the mouthpiece, although some designs blur the two. Decorative rings are generally made of eye-catching materials. Gorgeous and lightness are the basic standards. Ivory, antlers, bones, boxwood, olive wood and other woods are generally installed by nesting process.
